Where the used one goes.
Every pouch user solves this badly at least once. Here is the honest range of options, what is wrong with each, and where a dedicated compartment actually helps.
A pouch tin holds fresh pouches. It does not answer the question that arrives twenty minutes later, which is what to do with the one you have just taken out. Most tins offer a shallow lid recess, and most people end up doing something else entirely.
The four things people actually do
Back in the tin. The fastest option and the worst one. A spent pouch is wet. Putting it back into the same compartment as the fresh ones transfers that moisture into everything you have not used yet.
The lid recess. Better, and what most tins offer. It is usually shallow enough for one or two, it sits directly above the fresh pouches, and it tends to leak when the tin goes in a pocket sideways.
A tissue in the pocket. Works exactly once, then you have a wet tissue in your pocket and a decision to make about your trousers.
The nearest bin, immediately. The correct answer whenever a bin exists. The problem is the gap between finishing a pouch and finding one, which in a meeting, on a flight or in a car can be an hour.
What a separate tray changes
VALT gives the used pouch its own full-depth cavity running the width of the case beneath the eight fresh slots. Fresh and spent never share a compartment and never touch. That does not make the disposal decision for you — it removes the pressure to make it immediately.
The tray is sized to hold a working session's worth, so the case can go a day between emptyings rather than needing a bin within arm's reach.
Emptying and cleaning
Empty the tray into a bin. Pouches are not recyclable and should not go into a food or garden waste stream; general waste is where they belong, and they should never go down a toilet or a drain.
The case is not sealed and should not be submerged, but the bonded and potted joints are wash resistant, so rinsing the tray under a tap and wiping it dry is fine. The anodised surface does not need anything more than that.
